ECPMF, European Centre for Press and Media Freedom - Stakeholders

The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) is a non-profit organisation that was founded in Leipzig, Germany, 2015.

It operates on the basis of  the European Charter on Freedom of the Press and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

ECPMF’s mission is to promote, preserve and defend media freedom, by monitoring violations, providing practical support and engaging diverse stakeholders across Europe.

ECPMF is the project coordinator of the MFRR, Media Freedom Rapid Response.

Media In Action - Stakeholders

Media in Action is a EU funded project that aims to train educators (i.e. youth and community group leaders, techers, trainee teachers or teaching assistants) in media literacy and storytelling. Expected results include:

• an online course for educators in media literacy and storytelling;
• teaching and learning materials;
• a repository of lesson plans and resources;
• an online community;
• a showcase of stories from end users.

The project is led by a European consortium composed by Pontydysgu (UK, Germany, Spain), COFAC (Portugal), Cooperativa Nuova Dimensione (Italy), Grupo Comunicar (Spain) and KIC (Malta).

Correctiv (CORRECT!V) - Stakeholders

Correctiv (CORRECT!V) is a nonprofit investigative newsroom in the German-speaking world. It aims at making "investigative and informative journalism affordable and accessible to media organizations throughout Germany". Founded in 2014 it is part of the Global Investigative Journalism Network.

German Federation of Journalists ( Deutscher Journalisten-Verband- DJV) - Stakeholders

The Deutscher Journalisten-Verband (German Federation of Journalists) is a professional association, trade union and service center for journalists. With around 38.000 members is one of the largest journalists' trade union in Germany. It is one of the oldest and most important institutions of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

MEDIADEM - Stakeholders

MEDIADEM was a European research project lasted from April 2010 to March 2013 focusing on the factors that promote or conversely prevent the development of policies supporting free and independent media.

The project combined a country-based study in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and the UK with a comparative analysis across media sectors and various types of media services. It investigated the configuration of media policies in the aforementioned countries and examined the opportunities and challenges generated by new media services for media freedom and independence. Moreover, external pressures on the design and implementation of state media policies, stemming from the European Union and the Council of Europe, are thoroughly discussed and analysed.

The coordinator of the project has been the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy.

Tactical Technology Collective - Stakeholders

Tactical Tech is a non-profit organisation based in Berlin, working since 2003 to advance the use of information and digital technologies by advocates and activists worldwide. Tactical Tech is currently engaged within three programme areas (Exposing & Shaping issues; Digital Security and Privacy; and Data Politics), working to raise awareness, build practical skills and inspire critical reflection and inspiration. 

Institute of European Media Law - Stakeholders

The Institute of European Media Law (EMR) is a Europe-wide network of over 180 legal experts based in Saarbrücken (Germany). The EMR was founded in 1990 as a non-profit association; today it is a partner of numerous national and European institutions. The Institute acts as a service provider and neutral platform in a number of fields of media law and policy. Thanks to its network which comprises over 180 national experts from 40 European countries, it is particularly able to carry out comparative legal studies. The EMR organises conferences and publishes research results in different publications, including its own series of books.

EMR is among the funding partners of the ECPMF.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung - Stakeholders

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation based in Germany, acting as a think-tank and consulting agency. Its overall aim is to support the consolidationof democracy, the unification of Europe and the strengthening of transatlantic relations, as well as of development cooperation.

KAS Media Program South East Europe was established to strengthen the role of the media in the course of democratization and transformation - through advanced training, consultancy, dialogue and network building.

KAS BalkanMedia online platform presenting content of regional networks that are encouraging media freedom and diversity in South East Europe, as well as modern and transparent political communication.
